Ellsworth family papers, 1779-1890.

Letters written to Abigail (Nabby) Ellsworth by her husband Oliver Ellsworth while he was serving in the Continental Congress, the Constitutional Convention, the United States Senate and as commissioner to France. Most of the letters contain questions about his children and statements about missing his family, but they do include occasional political news, as when the British set their American prisoners free in April 1783. Also includes letters written to William Wolcott and Emily (Webster) Ellsworth, primarily by Emily's father, the lexicographer Noah Webster, and by her brother William G. Webster. Among Noah Webster's papers are certificates of deposit or registration at the federal and state level for a number of his books, and contracts awarding publishing rights to certain titles. His papers also include documents relating to the settlement of his estate. Seemingly unrelated are a series of letters acquired with the collection written by J.I. Emmegabback of the White Earth Band of Chippewa Indians to Mrs. Charles Prindle in 1890.
